Get ready to boogie down with Flow Tribe - written by Meredith Berberian

New Orlean's spawns some of the best music. We all know that. I am here to introduce you to one of the city's favorite bands.  Flow Tribe is amped and ready to get loose with y'all.

I always like a when a band introduces the members right off the bat. So allow us to introduce you to New Orleans' own FLOW TRIBE. This 6 piece tribe of musical maniacs (in the best possible way) combine a mix of Dr. John funkalishness with some Beastie Boy bravado. It works!

My girl, Meredith writes:

Created from a city of sizzling energy, amazing color, and Smoky back rooms- Flow Tribe has stuck to its bluesy roots while adding their own funky flair.
It took the rhythm Section all of ten seconds to have me up and moving to "Walk Like an Animal". I had to refrain myself from hitting repeat and went to the next song: "Hungry For You", instead. Both songs come with a great for tapping beat, trumpet, guitar, and washboard solos combined with energetic vocals that get you up and moving.

The lead singer and trumpet player, KC O'Rourke, has so much energy and style! His voice, smooth and Lively, pulls you into the song. Backed by John Michael Early, (on harmonica, washboards, vocals, keyboard), Russell Olschner, (on drums), Chad Penot,(on bass and vocals), Brian Santos, (on guitar and timbales), and Mario Palmisano, (on guitar), Flow Tribe is a treat to behold!
Make sure to catch them in concert, (links below), you will be in for a great night!

I added some notes from an interview with the lead singer, the one and only, KC O'Rorke. He actually gets on the phone. Points brother points.
August 23, 2005 – August 31, 2005 14 years ago a little lady named Katrina smashed into town. She left battered homes broken dreams and continued chaos. Lives were upturned, despair was in abundant supply. The 6 friends had scattered to go to school and work in different areas. Once the tragedy shook their city, the homies returned to help their families rebuild They all stuck around to form a band.  They named it Flow Tribe because these dudes go with the Flow. These cool cats were innate musicians. None really had any formal training. Step up to the plate kind of guy, KC O Rorke became the fearless leader and front man.

The Tribe pastes together a collage artfully using smatterings of the funkalish soul of Dr. John, the groove of the Meters, and the hip to the hop rap style of the Beasties. KC in the house. He rocks his style with fuchsia suits, a different hat piece for each show, and a five o’clock shadow that suits him. He works hard to keep the band in top form.

I asked how do 6 dudes get along in the van, in the studio and on stage. When I saw them they were jiving with While they may have their Hey Dude get off of my cloud moments, they get along pretty damn well. Their synergy comes across in their stellar live performances. They are like a groovy musical antidepressant without all the filthy side effects. If you don't leave grinning like a teenager who just had their first ride on a motorcycle, then you have achieved robotic, zombis status. Lighten up Y'all.

Also what band shows up at a pledge drive to do a performance then winds up doing an impromptu jam with the Queen of New Orleans soul, Ms. Irma Thomas, well look who who did. They accompanied her on "Rolling Down The River". While she was in full jam swing, KC admited to me they had only played the song a few times. Take a look and a listen to this fake it then you make it.
More video reviews coming at you. Dance it off.

Song of the Day - "OPEN" - by Stella Ruze (Rules)

The Gang is all here. STELLA RUZE writtten by Violet Rosette Stella Ruze? More like Stella Rulez! Stella Ruze was birthed in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia in 2014 and is continuing to grow. They just dropped a new video for their newest song “Open”. This song will be featured on their new album “The Greater Dog”. Brendan Johnson & Katie O’Donnell are the band founders and help write most of the songs. The group also includes Keyboardist Mason Wallack and Alex Styer on trumpet. Together they make a stellar team! What could be better than Stella Ruze the 4-piece?   Stella Ruze the 7-piece! These funky monkeys have added accomplished blues drummer Sean McIntyre who really knows his way around a drum set. They also merged Bass guitar extraordinaire Ted Mayo and saxophone player, Vince Gleason, who is a lifetime member of the legendary Mummer group – Ferko String Band, into the previous 4-piece. According to the band, “Our new sound emboldens our message to fa

Song of the day - The Big Swirl - Barney Cortez

Wild opening sequence  draws you in with a sweep of psychedelic, cowboy energy.  barney favors Stetson looks btw.  Eclectic guitar riffs match the lyrical sass and elegant horn accouterments.  Barney comes at you with silky smooth vocals that belie the hard truth as he tells  a little story about his journey.  He thought he should call this track Runaway but The Big Swirl spews intrigue.  He sing about being a coke a cola freak and the failure trap.  So he Runs away. "The Big Swirl" emanates from a song by "Sir Rockaby",  Frank Black tune. The particular use of the term moved Barney. He told me,  " " It's what he calls the sky and the universe and I came to use the phrase as the spectrum of human emotions and experience. Sort of like a rebirth." This is deep and poignant kind of like much of Barney's music and though process.  Barney imparts a casual vibe but his songs are ripe with world wariness. He has a groovy vibe sport

Artist of the Week - Rubber, the band, from Philadelphia

A n ironic set of results when you Google,Rubber the band.  The useful office staple pops up. This useful educational article appears Rubber: A simple introduction - Explain that Stuff There is also a 2010 movie entitled Rubber. ´ Rubber  is a 2010 English-language French independent, satirical horror film about a tire that comes to life and kills people with its psychic powers.” Apparently it’s based on a true story. Rubber, the band, from Philadelphia consists of Andrew Loper (Singer/Co-Writer) & John Della Franco (Producer/Co-Writer). This amiable duo is quickly gaining steam and streams.  They are playing in several local Philly venues drawing crowds with only 2 secured singles out. They say an EP is coming soon. “Contol” snapped and popped into my finely tuning auditory system. The level of sophisticated twists in this melodious song about contemporary angst is right on point. The aspect of pretending to be in control anchors this self admittedly personal tr
