Like the Rolling Stones

The station I listen to most is playing an day Rolling Stones party fest. The Stones have soooooo many songs. I actually have so much to do but just feel like driving around in the car with the windows down singing loud. I don't always care for everything they put out. Some of their countrified songs don't always go down with a spoon of sugar but damn do they rock it when they want it. Exile on Mainstreet is a favorite that my sister and I bought in a small record shop in San Luis Obisbo. It held us over on our rushes up the PCh taking in the wild beauty of Big Sur and the charisma that is San Fran. To be honest I never knew all the names to the songs on Exile I just loved the sound the vibe. "Shake Your Hips Baby" stands out. "Rip Roaring Joint' also. I like to move. I like to sing loud. I guess I like Noise. My favorite song this year and there are so many is "Life To Fix" The Record Company borrows some Stones noise making ideas. I feel the raunc

Take Care of You

Wednesday is my favorite day of the week because it is when the new edition of the Aquarian comes out. I get my musical fix when I read that alternative mag. I discovered the Forth Wanderers and was instantly charmed by their older than they are sound. The lead singer, Ava Trilling, is a modern chanteuse. A pretty girl with a pretty voice that floats over the deft guitar playing and hint of drum beat. I like they aren't overnight sensation in that sense that Phoebe Bridgers came out of nowhere and ate up alot of radio air waves with her melancholia. Trilling sings with charismatic confidence. There is a distinct style to her singing but it does bring to mind the ladies of the 90s. Packing the diaristic tone of Liz Phair and the Breeders that it is appreciated. The songs have a slow built tone to them with the sounds of the winding guitar harmonizing with Trilling. Listening now to their latest endeavor, a self titled album put out by the amazing Subpop Records reminds me of the wea

Dope Lemon where have you been hiding?

Had an idea to dig in and give some love to some Philly bands I adore. I was listening to Mt. Joy's "Sheep" and was digging into the ambling chill vibes of that song. It ended and the next song up was "Where Do You Go To" by a band I hadn't heard of "Dope Lemon". The rangy vocals reminded me of Kurt Vile infused with a bit of Craig Finn swagger. The groove is drifting, underwater, hazy. This is the brainchild of Angus Stone who sings with his sister Juila. There is a strong resemblance to Kurt Vile by way of the guitar style and Kurt's unique vocals. The twanging guitar paired nicely with the artful percussion. "Marinade" was a sweet track where he is telling his story Craig Finn style. "You know how you heard that story about that family with the burned down house / That was her" It is actually a seductive song "Do you want me / as I am / Let's go steady / Let's make a plan / Marinate on that for awhile" I

RBKS

I am absolutely in love with the band Rainbow Kitten Surprise. Not just because I am crazy cat lady and adore their name but also because the boys are damn good musicians. The five friends hail from Boone, NC. They played together for the past 5 years doing the divey college bar scene where they grabbed a local following. They seemed to have come out of nowhere an now are selling out there shows and playing festivals. There is humility to their work and an honesty I don't always get from emerging artists. Emotive flow and edgy guitar riffs plus jagged  bass lines that move the songs along and get caught in your head in a good way not like in Beyonce Put a Ring on It kind of way. I swear I was going to go insane after hearing that song and Katie Perry's Roar back to back while waiting for a slice of pizza. | The boys from Boone have 3 albums under their belt. Their latest "How To: Friend, Love, Freefall" is is a blend of genre bending songs. They worked with Modest M
