Artist of the Day - Gyasi

The sizzling 6 string playing slithers from one speaker to another on "Wilde Childe". The glassy guitar sounds punched up against the wlld drum beat are so enticing. The sound design slides into a 70s walk through the forest then picks right back up. The unpredictability is  how I came to love all that is Gyasi. He does NOT play it safe. He glams it up in his beautiful way. Yet for someone who is prettier than  your girlfriend, he amps it up wth his stellar guitar playing and ace showmanship.  He to me is the real deal.

"See how she changes colors"

He hs to be the most colorful performer out there. Unabashed in his lipstick wearing, glam blasting, he brings back the Bowie 70s style. He is checking into the Plant sound zone and doing it up right in these times of safe zones. Maybe don't play this in front of your Mama. NSFW music.   Yea I eat it up.

There is so much sexy  drippin from this album.  It is hard to lsten to early in the morning.  This is cocktail time and beyond music.  These song beg for the sun to go downand the shades to close  Ooh let's hit the 300 humndred thread count.  Another stando ut is the straight up Chuck Berry meets Bowie "Kiss Kiss". This is a track to get you moving after a disco nap. Full of snappy guitar, a slithering sax solo, and boisterous lyrical ability. Theis song with the piano behing dis a song fo rth ges. Lets ing it out loud KISS KISS. A stinging  anthm to whatever you  want to be. Then in tandem as a gender bending fuck you to those who bing you down.

Next up is another is the irresistible  "Little Tramp".  This song opens with a wiggly guitar blush. He has no issue taking on the loneliness that goes on in ones life.  "See you there in the sunshine. Kick that apple in the air."    The idea of being misunderstood yet  living in a wild existence meshed with consistence. He sings of tragedy and comedy too. Kick that apple into the air. Follow it up with the hippy anthem La La La La...  Whatever Mary ideology.  I am down.

Gyasi speaks to everyone. Excludes no one. He slides sexy notions all over these cracked side walks.  Listen if you dare.   That said ths is one of my favoritie albums of 2019. Dissect at your leisure.

Let's get to know Gyasi better;

Tell me about how u make music. You have a wild cool vibe akin to 70s Bowie mixed with 90s Beck. How did you pull it all together?

Thanks! I write all the misc and lyrics and then record it with various musicians, or sometimes all myself and then work it up with the live band for shows. That was how it came together with my first EP. It's a bit of a grey area between being a band and solo artist. It sounds like a band but all the behind the scenes work is me.

You are a flashy performer. Love it. What is your favorite song to play live?

That's a tough one because different songs seem to have their nights when they stand for whatever reason. Sugar Mama is always fun. So is "All Messed Up". I'm really excited to play some of the new tunes we've been writing live. I they're are best yet.

Very groovy. Would you say it's more a collective or collaboration than a band?

In a way. It really feels like a band to me when we're playing out but when I am writing it feels like a solo songwriter.

Thank you so much. Keep on being beautiful inside and out.

Thank you!

Song of the Day - "OPEN" - by Stella Ruze (Rules)

The Gang is all here. STELLA RUZE writtten by Violet Rosette Stella Ruze? More like Stella Rulez! Stella Ruze was birthed in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia in 2014 and is continuing to grow. They just dropped a new video for their newest song “Open”. This song will be featured on their new album “The Greater Dog”. Brendan Johnson & Katie O’Donnell are the band founders and help write most of the songs. The group also includes Keyboardist Mason Wallack and Alex Styer on trumpet. Together they make a stellar team! What could be better than Stella Ruze the 4-piece?   Stella Ruze the 7-piece! These funky monkeys have added accomplished blues drummer Sean McIntyre who really knows his way around a drum set. They also merged Bass guitar extraordinaire Ted Mayo and saxophone player, Vince Gleason, who is a lifetime member of the legendary Mummer group – Ferko String Band, into the previous 4-piece. According to the band, “Our new sound emboldens our message to fa

Song of the day - The Big Swirl - Barney Cortez

Wild opening sequence  draws you in with a sweep of psychedelic, cowboy energy.  barney favors Stetson looks btw.  Eclectic guitar riffs match the lyrical sass and elegant horn accouterments.  Barney comes at you with silky smooth vocals that belie the hard truth as he tells  a little story about his journey.  He thought he should call this track Runaway but The Big Swirl spews intrigue.  He sing about being a coke a cola freak and the failure trap.  So he Runs away. "The Big Swirl" emanates from a song by "Sir Rockaby",  Frank Black tune. The particular use of the term moved Barney. He told me,  " " It's what he calls the sky and the universe and I came to use the phrase as the spectrum of human emotions and experience. Sort of like a rebirth." This is deep and poignant kind of like much of Barney's music and though process.  Barney imparts a casual vibe but his songs are ripe with world wariness. He has a groovy vibe sport

Artist of the Week - Rubber, the band, from Philadelphia

A n ironic set of results when you Google,Rubber the band.  The useful office staple pops up. This useful educational article appears Rubber: A simple introduction - Explain that Stuff There is also a 2010 movie entitled Rubber. ´ Rubber  is a 2010 English-language French independent, satirical horror film about a tire that comes to life and kills people with its psychic powers.” Apparently it’s based on a true story. Rubber, the band, from Philadelphia consists of Andrew Loper (Singer/Co-Writer) & John Della Franco (Producer/Co-Writer). This amiable duo is quickly gaining steam and streams.  They are playing in several local Philly venues drawing crowds with only 2 secured singles out. They say an EP is coming soon. “Contol” snapped and popped into my finely tuning auditory system. The level of sophisticated twists in this melodious song about contemporary angst is right on point. The aspect of pretending to be in control anchors this self admittedly personal tr
