Fanny revels in their sassiness. Meet one of the best band you never heard about.

One of the most important female bands in American rock has been buried without a trace. And that is Fanny. They were one of the finest fucking rock bands of their time, in about 1973. They were extraordinary: They wrote everything, they played like motherfuckers, they were just colossal and wonderful, and nobody’s ever mentioned them. They’re as important as anybody else who’s ever been, ever; it just wasn’t their time. Revivify Fanny. And I will feel that my work is done.”
—David Bowie in a December 1999 issue of Rolling Stone

Fanny tosses sass like basmati rice at an elopement.
"We had to prove we could play like the guys And we could we were good."They don't shy away from controversy. They take on the haters by essentially ripping long rock centric riffs, Slippery bass thumps, wild pounces on the keys and rippled drumming. Don't mess with these girls. They play better than some guys and probably could drink a few under the table.  Here are some lyrics that shot out at me.
"Take Care of Yourself
This is Your Story"

"They yell you can't do it. So turn it up and do it and play like a girl." I was going to write about Fanny but it kept getting pushed back. I  got a little flack for writing about "another boy band" Here is the truth I have reached out to "girl bands" one post punk band from England gave me the brush off  sayig they were busy touring. Really 6 gigs in 6 months is not a tour. They were meh at best. Then a girl band out of LA didn't even thank me Basically because I didn't play up their "queerness".  Oh and there was this one band whose middle aged manager was doing all their social media communication as if he was them. OH then there was that "girl" from Canada who may or may not be real. Vet like a boss.  Ok I don't play us the sexual factor. I don't care who you fk. Can you play or not? Get off my back sisters. I did a shout out of all the ladies I wrote about only ONE gave that stellar RT. So ladies unles you want to play nice in the sandbox. Take your ball nd go home. As I look for contemporary women to write about I cringe. I am not writing about the Lana Del Ray set of young ladies who have already resorted to covering boy bands. mmmm Sublime cover anyone. Plus PB is non existent this year and Jade Bird is a screecher extraordinaire.  I do like Mattiel but she has been covered as has Your Smith who I also like.

Here are some real life sisters who toss sass like rice at an elopement.

COME ON play like a girl

"This is me and Jean's CD. We've been a team for a while. We are going to get rowdy. OH Goooodddd what's that. "

Yea sass.
The 70s style slither of the guitar. The ladies crush it. Playing the guitar like a righteous rock star. Jean thumps out the blazing bass line like a boss Yea these are my idols  Fanny went by the wayside int eh 70s because they wouln'd use the sexy factor. Bell bottoms and button ups The no makeup look with wild thick hair was their signature style. They shredded men undrer the table. Don't know their drinking sytle but my guess is they could throw down shots better than the boys too.

This song rises with anthemic beauty A fuck you to critics. A fuck you to my critics. Music writing a boys game. Well here I am in all my feminine glory.  Here s a little more of the Milington sisters in their androgynous glory. If you ywant to know how to be free again follow me.

"You can catch me singing with the morning wind if you see me again." Please don't comment when you don't have the backstory. They had sweet voices not screech machines like Heart. Sorry I realize why I never went crazy over the Wilson sisters. too contrived over produced. The Milington sisters of Fanny were pure, no bullshit. Yea contrived always wins. But the underdog comes out of nowhere to snatch the real deal prize. The boomerang of Karma to the critics is fierce. Don't be surprised when she comes out of nowhere. "This is a promise to you. A promise we made   She Comes When You Need Her."  The isters came exactly when I needed them. Empowering.

Song of the Day - "OPEN" - by Stella Ruze (Rules)

The Gang is all here. STELLA RUZE writtten by Violet Rosette Stella Ruze? More like Stella Rulez! Stella Ruze was birthed in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia in 2014 and is continuing to grow. They just dropped a new video for their newest song “Open”. This song will be featured on their new album “The Greater Dog”. Brendan Johnson & Katie O’Donnell are the band founders and help write most of the songs. The group also includes Keyboardist Mason Wallack and Alex Styer on trumpet. Together they make a stellar team! What could be better than Stella Ruze the 4-piece?   Stella Ruze the 7-piece! These funky monkeys have added accomplished blues drummer Sean McIntyre who really knows his way around a drum set. They also merged Bass guitar extraordinaire Ted Mayo and saxophone player, Vince Gleason, who is a lifetime member of the legendary Mummer group – Ferko String Band, into the previous 4-piece. According to the band, “Our new sound emboldens our message to fa

Song of the day - The Big Swirl - Barney Cortez

Wild opening sequence  draws you in with a sweep of psychedelic, cowboy energy.  barney favors Stetson looks btw.  Eclectic guitar riffs match the lyrical sass and elegant horn accouterments.  Barney comes at you with silky smooth vocals that belie the hard truth as he tells  a little story about his journey.  He thought he should call this track Runaway but The Big Swirl spews intrigue.  He sing about being a coke a cola freak and the failure trap.  So he Runs away. "The Big Swirl" emanates from a song by "Sir Rockaby",  Frank Black tune. The particular use of the term moved Barney. He told me,  " " It's what he calls the sky and the universe and I came to use the phrase as the spectrum of human emotions and experience. Sort of like a rebirth." This is deep and poignant kind of like much of Barney's music and though process.  Barney imparts a casual vibe but his songs are ripe with world wariness. He has a groovy vibe sport

Artist of the Week - Rubber, the band, from Philadelphia

A n ironic set of results when you Google,Rubber the band.  The useful office staple pops up. This useful educational article appears Rubber: A simple introduction - Explain that Stuff There is also a 2010 movie entitled Rubber. ´ Rubber  is a 2010 English-language French independent, satirical horror film about a tire that comes to life and kills people with its psychic powers.” Apparently it’s based on a true story. Rubber, the band, from Philadelphia consists of Andrew Loper (Singer/Co-Writer) & John Della Franco (Producer/Co-Writer). This amiable duo is quickly gaining steam and streams.  They are playing in several local Philly venues drawing crowds with only 2 secured singles out. They say an EP is coming soon. “Contol” snapped and popped into my finely tuning auditory system. The level of sophisticated twists in this melodious song about contemporary angst is right on point. The aspect of pretending to be in control anchors this self admittedly personal tr
