The Record Company plays Rock N Roll. A pure 3 piece band blending the simplicity of guitar, percussion and bass. This bearded bunch add in the righteous harmonica and tambourine for ultimate effect. There latest album All of This Life is out today and I already can’t get enough of this funky stuff. They have been playing together for around 5 years after playing with different bands. They connected to form their signature sound. Chris Vos' whiskey toned, booming vocals play like an instrument. He takes his boosted guitar sounds to meld seamlessly with Alex Stiff's bass playing.. The dirty hot bass line on "Life To Fix" drives that song about getting out of your own way and making things work. "Nver going to cry for me' showcases Vos' guitar chops. The percussion is always rolling in the back ground. The Record Company started playing in their living rooms and then 18 months later they were playing sold out shows and highlighting events like WPXN Festival and Non Comm. While they tear up the bigger venues They seem most comfortable in their small intimiate events like the "Liviing Room Concerts" I viewd on youtube. I enjoy when Vos tosses in a Tom Petty like growl or a whoa. Ho. Always loved when Petty would be so into it he would let out a Whoa. Made the process seem organic and loved. That is what I get from this band they love playing rook no roll music. And god bless these bearded buddies. I first got turned on to them when I heard Off the ground. Pick myself up off the ground. To hear a burly bearded man sing the words I was feeling couldn't get any better especially with the raspy vocals and shimmering guitar playing. I dug into see that their debut album was self produced and mde and then Grammy Nominated. Their second single that cae out ws "Rita Mae Young" which reminded me of a 60s storytelling song. He sings "got a tired heart/been too long/put a ... in the jukebox/for a midnight song' A song about the aftermath of hearbreak. The tambourine plays a sweet role in this song. am a sukcer for tambourine sounds. It gives a song a deeper dimension in my eyes. Getting into their second album which again broaches the themes of getting better self awareness and improvement, It's better and cheaper than therapy.
"Turbulence" Starts with his utilizing his voice as an instrument along with his nimble fingers taking care of the keys. The low rush of background singers whispering “Palatine” sneaks in as he continues to resonate. As his voice hits its crescendo the pop of the drums whips in a surprise. The deft use of the kit rushes in, quick and edgy. The song rolls on with dramatic flair while his voice ascends "We will take the chance to fly away" He plays his vocals again as he sings Taaaturbulence then the gust of the drum takes over like a strong supporting character. A song rich in drama and operatic elements, comparisons to Queen are fair. And again the drumming continues stellar. Listening to this song is like being enveloped in a short play. I can imagine the majestic costumes and sweeping set design. Also I see color when I listen to “Turbulence”; scarlet, rich gold and shades of charcoal much like the picture I just posted. Interestingly I...
