Song of the Day - "Money Bars" - Flow Tribe. Written by Jessica K.

Flow Tribe:

Flow Tribe the band is exactly as their name portrays. By definition FLOW is to “go from one place to another in a steady stream, typically in large numbers.” This six piece pack stays busy going on tour and bringing down the house at different venues around the United States. TRIBE by definition is known as a “social division in a traditional society consisting of families or communities.” To be in a band you need to be like family or else society will tear you apart piece by piece leaving nothing left but a memory. This tribe of six is full of New Orleans natives and have been a wolf pack since 2004 when they were founded. And we thank the heavens they haven’t ceased their existence.

Front-man KC O’Rorke, raps, he sings, he dances and plays trumpet. He really is a true showman/entertainer. O’Rorke and his backing band have given us some brilliant music over the years. Their live performance is equivalent to a circus, without the animal cruelty. They bring a parade of fans where ever they go which really makes for a community driven experience for fans. They wear flashy outfits and groove their moves all over stage while not missing a single beat.  They are true creative professionals.

Flow Tribe just released a new single called “Monkey Bars”.  The group frames the song as a “chill groove about spontaneous love and loss”. The spontaneity of the song itself keeps fans wondering where it will take them next on their listening journey. The mesmerizing break downs and instrumental fills gave me the goosebumps. The brass section is subtle but is that of a wonder. Incorporating the brass instruments is what really makes this group of six a rarity amongst their contemporaries, if there are any.  The groovy guitars and dancing cymbal sounds bring you back to the feeling of a Saturday night in your favorite jazz club. The keen sounds of multiple guitars layering the background and smooth vocals pushed out front over top of these leads keeps your ear privy to the lyrics while your soul is guided by the tight rhythm section.

The Players: KC O’Rorke, vocals, trumpet; John-Michael Early, harmonica, washboard, vocals, keyboards; Russell Olschner, drums; Chad Penot, bass, vocals; Bryan Santos, guitar, timbales; Mario Palmisano, guitar.

If you have not done so already, stream this single on any music streaming platform, crack open a cold one, and let the funky music flow. These guys are active on social media and have a busy eventful touring schedule. Come see them Friday, November 1st, 2019 8:00 PM at The Basin Music Hall in Baton Rouge.

Tina Here: They revel in their demanding tour schedule. It lights the feisty fire under the band’s collective conscious. They are FULL TIME musicians. They pay the bills with gig money, you dig. They are pals from way back. You can definitely feel the vibe of the Tribe when you catch them live. I did. I went up to K.C. after his physically, demanding performance. He agreed to an interview without hesitation. We had a lively spirited chat. I commented on his energy. He hits it like the Beastie Boys, rips notes on the trumpet, and claims Mac Rebennack inspired their musical nonconformity.  All Hail Adam and Dr. John. NO sleep til NOLA. Thanks brothers

Thanks for the music Mac

Song of the Day - "OPEN" - by Stella Ruze (Rules)

The Gang is all here. STELLA RUZE writtten by Violet Rosette Stella Ruze? More like Stella Rulez! Stella Ruze was birthed in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia in 2014 and is continuing to grow. They just dropped a new video for their newest song “Open”. This song will be featured on their new album “The Greater Dog”. Brendan Johnson & Katie O’Donnell are the band founders and help write most of the songs. The group also includes Keyboardist Mason Wallack and Alex Styer on trumpet. Together they make a stellar team! What could be better than Stella Ruze the 4-piece?   Stella Ruze the 7-piece! These funky monkeys have added accomplished blues drummer Sean McIntyre who really knows his way around a drum set. They also merged Bass guitar extraordinaire Ted Mayo and saxophone player, Vince Gleason, who is a lifetime member of the legendary Mummer group – Ferko String Band, into the previous 4-piece. According to the band, “Our new sound emboldens our message to fa

Song of the day - The Big Swirl - Barney Cortez

Wild opening sequence  draws you in with a sweep of psychedelic, cowboy energy.  barney favors Stetson looks btw.  Eclectic guitar riffs match the lyrical sass and elegant horn accouterments.  Barney comes at you with silky smooth vocals that belie the hard truth as he tells  a little story about his journey.  He thought he should call this track Runaway but The Big Swirl spews intrigue.  He sing about being a coke a cola freak and the failure trap.  So he Runs away. "The Big Swirl" emanates from a song by "Sir Rockaby",  Frank Black tune. The particular use of the term moved Barney. He told me,  " " It's what he calls the sky and the universe and I came to use the phrase as the spectrum of human emotions and experience. Sort of like a rebirth." This is deep and poignant kind of like much of Barney's music and though process.  Barney imparts a casual vibe but his songs are ripe with world wariness. He has a groovy vibe sport

Artist of the Week - Rubber, the band, from Philadelphia

A n ironic set of results when you Google,Rubber the band.  The useful office staple pops up. This useful educational article appears Rubber: A simple introduction - Explain that Stuff There is also a 2010 movie entitled Rubber. ´ Rubber  is a 2010 English-language French independent, satirical horror film about a tire that comes to life and kills people with its psychic powers.” Apparently it’s based on a true story. Rubber, the band, from Philadelphia consists of Andrew Loper (Singer/Co-Writer) & John Della Franco (Producer/Co-Writer). This amiable duo is quickly gaining steam and streams.  They are playing in several local Philly venues drawing crowds with only 2 secured singles out. They say an EP is coming soon. “Contol” snapped and popped into my finely tuning auditory system. The level of sophisticated twists in this melodious song about contemporary angst is right on point. The aspect of pretending to be in control anchors this self admittedly personal tr
