Heading to OZ - Join me for a musical mind trip. Grab your pack. LET'S GO

The Scientists
The post punk psychedelic music of the late 60s spurred the Scientists, out of Perth, to create disjointed loud sounds.  Their sound is anything but smooth. Their 3 minutes and under songs feels like a dash of the Ramones and drip of The Church. This band has no trouble advertising tat they have no idea what the fuck they are dong. They are erratic, erroneous and elegiac  I sincerely love a band with no real agenda.  There is an organic rebellion to structure and form in their musical endeavors.

Kim Salmon, the edgy front man of he Scientists, has been stood up and he's not going to take it. This under the radar gem is A jaunty song about getting jilted on date night is both comical and fucking true.  Ever stand around in your Friday night best waiting and checking the door of the place you were to meet only to slink out in dashed hopes and embarrassing defeat. You know people were wondering why you are sitting on the bar stool alone. Ouch. THe Scientists rip their off beat mix of proto punk and psychorockabilly like wild marauders with a score to settle. Don't stand up Kim. He will pen a revenge song about you.  For other she done me wrong songs from Australian bands check out Lime Spiders "Weirdo Libido"   and the Stems "Tears Me In Two".  Come on now guys own your feelings.

Middle Kids
The well matched trio from Sydney blends insouciance and insight. They may be young but they have a vision to bring us some music that reminds me of 1998 with no cell phones and a  Barnes Nobles book store with a music section. Lovely Hannah Joy  turns her guitar upside to take it on the upstroke. Tim's got the down beat.  They don't so much play dueling guitars so much as strumming in tandem. Her glassy voice takes hold of you immediately. She holds her Aussie accent wit a Sharp enunciation even when she warbles. He blends in his harmonies still a step back from her. Most welcome unconventional south paw songstress and her right handed partner. She turned the right handed guitar around to get the low strings. It feels right.  Romantic songs that are still rooted in reality make this band an Australian darling.
You don't have to sell it

The Vines
Craig Nicholls is a beautiful, beautiful boy with limitless musical and artistic talent yet he gained quite the reputation for being er "difficult" on stage and off. At a cout hearing, his lawyer brought up hat he had severe Asperger's Syndrome. All charges were dropped so he could ontiune to create music with his band the Vines.  (BTW Syd presented with similar symptom's  and he was a freaking genius)
A stand out tune by this band that seamlessly blends 60s garage rock with genuine 90s alternative rock n roll is "RIDE".  The song clocks in at 2:43 and could have kept it moving for another 4 minutes. His vocal meanderings are a mix of George Harrison and Kurt Cobain. He fronts the four piece wearing a loose over sized cardigan while imploring your to "Ride with me" The chord progression is minimal and mixes easily with the clobbering drums sound. Add some well timed hand claps and you've got a stone cold classic.
The Vines' music runs the spectrum by heavy racing guitar work to dreamy slow winding tunes like "Amnesia".  This track is a hazy hallucegenic gem that evokes nostalgia to a calmer time in your mind at least. The Vines have an evolving sound where the past and the future implode.

Song of the Day - "OPEN" - by Stella Ruze (Rules)

The Gang is all here. STELLA RUZE writtten by Violet Rosette Stella Ruze? More like Stella Rulez! Stella Ruze was birthed in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia in 2014 and is continuing to grow. They just dropped a new video for their newest song “Open”. This song will be featured on their new album “The Greater Dog”. Brendan Johnson & Katie O’Donnell are the band founders and help write most of the songs. The group also includes Keyboardist Mason Wallack and Alex Styer on trumpet. Together they make a stellar team! What could be better than Stella Ruze the 4-piece?   Stella Ruze the 7-piece! These funky monkeys have added accomplished blues drummer Sean McIntyre who really knows his way around a drum set. They also merged Bass guitar extraordinaire Ted Mayo and saxophone player, Vince Gleason, who is a lifetime member of the legendary Mummer group – Ferko String Band, into the previous 4-piece. According to the band, “Our new sound emboldens our message t...

Allow me to Introduce The Inclines

The Inclines hail from Kitchener, Ontario. The dynamic four-piece band release songs that ricochet with emotive prowess. They sing of relationships gone South as well as found love. Their style is a brash mix of alternative self-confessional emo indie rock.  They released a few ripping singles earlier in the Spring.  Here is your introduction to the band. Sam Belanger - Lead Vocals/Rhythm Guitar Jake Robinson - Bass Guitar/Vocals Brad McNeil - Drums/Vocals Cole Saunders - Lead Guitar What's up with the band name?  – “Our singer came up with it about 3 years ago. It doesn’t have any special meaning we just like how ambiguous it sounds.” Tell me about your start as a band  – “ We’ve been a band since 2016. Our  influences  range across many genres such as punk, and R&B. We write our lyrics as a group. Our songwriting process is very chaotic because we always have many songs on the go.” What is your favorite music to listen to? ...

Song of the day - "Turbulence" - Archpalatine

"Turbulence"  Starts with his utilizing his voice as an instrument along with his nimble fingers taking care of the keys. The low rush of background singers whispering “Palatine” sneaks in as he continues to resonate. As his  voice hits its crescendo the pop of the drums whips in a surprise. The deft use of the kit rushes in, quick and edgy.   The song rolls on with dramatic flair while his voice ascends "We will take the chance to fly away" He plays his vocals again as he sings Taaaturbulence then the gust of the drum takes over like a strong supporting character. A song rich in drama and operatic elements, comparisons to Queen are fair. And again the drumming continues stellar.  Listening to this song is like being enveloped in a short play. I can imagine the majestic costumes and sweeping set design. Also I see color when I listen to “Turbulence”; scarlet, rich gold and shades of charcoal much like the picture I just posted. Interestingly I...
