New
Orlean's spawns some of the best music. We all know that. I am here to
introduce you to one of the city's favorite bands. Flow Tribe is amped
and ready to get loose with y'all.
I always
like a when a band introduces the members right off the bat. So allow us to
introduce you to New Orleans' own FLOW TRIBE. This 6 piece tribe of musical
maniacs (in the best possible way) combine a mix of Dr. John funkalishness with
some Beastie Boy bravado. It works!
Created from a city of sizzling energy, amazing color, and Smoky back rooms- Flow Tribe has stuck to its bluesy roots while adding their own funky flair. It took the rhythm Section all of ten seconds to have me up and moving to "Walk Like an Animal". I had to refrain myself from hitting repeat and went to the next song: "Hungry For You", instead. Both songs come with a great for tapping beat, trumpet, guitar, and washboard solos combined with energetic vocals that get you up and moving.
The
lead singer and trumpet player, KC O'Rourke, has so much energy and style! His
voice, smooth and Lively, pulls you into the song. Backed by John Michael
Early, (on harmonica, washboards, vocals, keyboard), Russell Olschner, (on
drums), Chad Penot,(on bass and vocals), Brian Santos, (on guitar and
timbales), and Mario Palmisano, (on guitar), Flow Tribe is a treat to behold!
Make
sure to catch them in concert, (links below), you will be in for a great night!

I added
some notes from an interview with the lead singer, the one and only, KC O'Rorke. He actually gets on the phone. Points brother points.
August
23, 2005 – August 31, 2005 14 years ago a little lady named Katrina smashed
into town. She left battered homes broken dreams and continued chaos. Lives
were upturned, despair was in abundant supply. The 6 friends had scattered to
go to school and work in different areas. Once the tragedy shook their city,
the homies returned to help their families rebuild They all stuck around to
form a band. They named it Flow Tribe because these dudes go with the Flow.
These cool cats were innate musicians. None really had any formal training. Step
up to the plate kind of guy, KC O Rorke became the fearless leader and front
man.
The
Tribe pastes together a collage artfully using smatterings of the funkalish
soul of Dr. John, the groove of the Meters, and the hip to the hop rap style of
the Beasties. KC in the house. He rocks his style with fuchsia suits, a
different hat piece for each show, and a five o’clock shadow that suits him. He
works hard to keep the band in top form.
I asked
how do 6 dudes get along in the van, in the studio and on stage. When I saw
them they were jiving with While they may have their Hey Dude get off of my
cloud moments, they get along pretty damn well. Their synergy comes across in
their stellar live performances. They are like a groovy musical antidepressant
without all the filthy side effects. If you don't leave grinning like a
teenager who just had their first ride on a motorcycle, then you have achieved robotic,
zombis status. Lighten up Y'all.
Also what band shows up at a pledge drive to do a performance then winds up doing an impromptu jam with the Queen of New Orleans soul, Ms. Irma Thomas, well look who who did. They accompanied her on "Rolling Down The River". While she was in full jam swing, KC admited to me they had only played the song a few times. Take a look and a listen to this fake it then you make it.
More video reviews coming at you. Dance it off.
