Song of the day - "Super Superior" -SUPERBIRD

SUPERBIRD  is set for takeoff. They aren't going to land anytime soon. Their latest offering "Super Superior" dropped today. Early this Summer they gleefully released the super delicious tunes "Cola Bottle Fizz" along with "Kiss Chasing Stars". Both had accompanying videos which were a breath of fresh color drenched air. Joe, Alex, and Freddy (see my Superbird Interview article) put a true dazzling show each time they take a stage or even bop in front of the camera for one of their infamous Vlogs. (subscribe to their channel). They possess some rather bold fashion choices which completely work for these bearded boys from London. They look simply marvelous in sequins, fuchsia and paisley shirts complete with unsubtle aviators. Joe sings with intense bravado on this track that I do believe is the break out track that will fully put them on the musical maze map. The double S song packs full boogie righteousness into 2 mins and 59 seconds.  ...

Song of the Day - Danger Zone - Hawk Tubley TBT #1

Hawk Tubley harnesses an old soul feel. I wanted to get this out on a Thursday. It is my first of my TBT songs segment.  In this fast paced world of electronics, gadgets, snap chats and hackers, this song heals the contemporary psychological wounds. I do feel we are all in a "Danger Zone".  Where are we going? Well to figure that out, let's go back. Time to set "your inner monkey free".  George Mostoller is the mastermind of Hawk Tubley. The name came to him one morning pre caffeine. he questioned why he chose the name. I think it works because it is unique sticks with you. You know alight then. George crafts masterful lyrics that just "bounce like a rubber ball".  I enjoy the creative word play. He plays his acoustic guitar with a shifty hand. It works. His keyboard player, Dave Cope (leader of the Sass),lends his multi instrumental prowess to the Ozymandians.  He is seen here playing keys then shifting to guitar. "Dirty streets/dirty min...

Get ready to boogie down with Flow Tribe - written by Meredith Berberian

New Orlean's spawns some of the best music. We all know that. I am here to introduce you to one of the city's favorite bands.  Flow Tribe is amped and ready to get loose with y'all. I always like a when a band introduces the members right off the bat. So allow us to introduce you to New Orleans' own FLOW TRIBE. This 6 piece tribe of musical maniacs (in the best possible way) combine a mix of Dr. John funkalishness with some Beastie Boy bravado. It works! My girl, Meredith writes:  Created from a city of sizzling energy, amazing color, and Smoky back rooms- Flow Tribe has stuck to its bluesy roots while adding their own funky flair.  It took the rhythm Section all of ten seconds to have me up and moving to "Walk Like an Animal". I had to refrain myself from hitting repeat and went to the next song: "Hungry For You", instead. Both songs come with a great for tapping beat, trumpet, guitar, and washboard solos combined with energeti...

Album Release - Dave Cope and the Sass

"Rock 'n Roll is here to stay Come inside well it's okay And I'll shake you, ooh ooh ooh" Big Star Dave Cope and the Sass are shaking  it up.  This tribe of seasoned musical gypsies went deep to bring us this album that will delight, insight, and may make you shed salted tears for another era. But they are the NOW and WOW. Let me present to you one of the most real deal albums of 2019.   The first time I heard the "If Your Mama Only Knew" on WXPN. I tweeted at DJ Dan Reed. "Did I miss a long lost Big Star song". The response was something like this "No. It's Sass.Dave Cope." Well I did that Google thing   Mr. Dave Cope, singer songwriter located in Philadelphia, popped as the search winner I went straight to the source. We became Facebook compadres.  I told him girlfriend, Sarah, is way cool. (She sings on the record).  I kept listening to the song. It wouldn't leave my head in a good way. I  went on to write a ...

New Discovery - Papi and The Smears

“The suburbs may have raised us but the city keeps us alive!” - Jessica Komyati of Papi and the Smears.   First off the name.... boom. Also they are reviving some true garage grunge rock with and indie twist of lemon shaken not stirred. Drink it down.  This is my comment on their Facebook page . Papi and The Smears are on a mission. " Rock and Roll is dying. We want to give it a PULSE". This Ohio based band create music that combines of indie bliss, straight out of the garage rock and a sprinkling of the blues.  Papi is full on determined to give you a rocking Cleveland centric experience.  The members of the band with the best name out there include Jessica Komyati on lead vocals and guitar, John Jasunas on drums, Devin Ratajczak on bass and harmony vocals. Having three in a band can be a challenge, but these newcomers who have been jamming quietly are poised to make a splash in the pool of  contemporary musi...

SUPERBIRD - the Interview

Let’s fly high with Superbird. Spread the feathers all over for those music lovers in need of a wildly infectious band determined to bring dandy pigment and pleasurable experiences into your life.  Hello hello H ello young lady. X Well Superbird is quite the flamboyant peacock. It is so refreshing in this sea of crows. How did you choose the name? After a literal 6 months of playing together under the guise of ‘Joe Fin’ it was high time we picked a band name. The three of us took to the boozer and it became crunch point... Frontman Joe suggested the idea as if summoning a rabbit from a hat, and after a long hard debate we totally went for it...  Tell me how Superbird is different from other bands you have been? Superbird represents love, colour & happiness. We’re here to bring our super-positive energy into this messed up world we live in... Individually, it differs from our previous projects because this is a supergroup: A triumvira...

Video of the day - "Kiss Chasing Stars" - Superbird

KISS CHASING STARS Subscribe to their Youtube Superbird reminds me of a well-mixed cocktail specifically a cosmopolitan with its fruity irreverence but known to pack a punch when you get up off your bar stool. A little goes along way but you will most likely need another sip. This team of three, Joe Finnigan Vocal/guitar, Alex Ash, drummer and Freddy Sidero provides the electric bass lines rush the arcade  doors with pure bluster. The boys sport their Saturday night best; woven knit white pants, sequined jackets, paisley magnificence on Freddy, the bass master. Joe coifs his beard and lets his long hair writhe from side to side as he plays his guitar with surpassing swagger. Alex rocks the messy do which completely suits him as he whacks those drums with insouciant flair. “Kiss Chasing Stars” explodes like a flamboyant firecracker. The boys do their synchronicity thing while dancing in unison with bowling balls. All the while keeping the music rolling. Lyrics li...

Video of the Day - Cola Bottle Fizz Come join this sweet soiree.

Every once in a while a group comes a long that not  only knows exactly what they are doing, but also is found mid execution. UK’s Superbird appears to be one of these bands. Consisting of Joe Fin (Guitar), Alex Ash (Drums) and Freddy Sidero (Bass), all of whom share vocal duties, Superbird coalesces into a great funky pop trio with a sound tapped right from the veins of Prince and Bowie.  The fun loving attitude of the band compliments their flamboyant and feathered image. In the color drenched peacock of a video for their song “Cola Bottle Fizz,” they let you know they are here to glam it up with a grain of salt or sugar in this case. This rocking little baby reads as an ode to pleasure which compares the object of affection to teeth rotting sweets. Joe Fin's slinky guitar work glistens over the groove laid down by Freddy Sidero (this song in particular contains some very cool bass action). Alex’s drums keep the beat up and moving. The band dances around colorful r...

Fanny revels in their sassiness. Meet one of the best band you never heard about.

One of the most important female bands in American rock has been buried without a trace. And that is Fanny. They were one of the finest fucking rock bands of their time, in about 1973. They were extraordinary: They wrote everything, they played like motherfuckers, they were just colossal and wonderful, and nobody’s ever mentioned them. They’re as important as anybody else who’s ever been, ever; it just wasn’t their time. Revivify Fanny. And I will feel that my work is done.” —David Bowie in a December 1999 issue of Rolling Stone   Fanny tosses sass like basmati rice at an elopement.  "We had to prove we could play like the guys And we could we were good."They don't shy away from controversy. They take on the haters by essentially ripping long rock centric riffs, Slippery bass thumps, wild pounces on the keys and rippled drumming. Don't mess with these girls. They play better than some guys and probably could drink a few under the table.  Here...

Video of the Day - Tongue Tied - Gyasi

“You can drive your car though a padded bazar/ You can shoot your gun at the back of the sun” Gyasi sings these opening lyrics with his typical rumpled red velvet sound. His voice sounds like you can wear it to an underground after party. You can’t take your eyes of the bewitching Gyasi in his slick, erogenous video, “Tongue Tied”. It made me conjure up the opening scene in “Blow Up”. Where Veruka does her writing on the ground with the striking David Hemmings as the lustful photographer, bossing her around to vamp it up for a stimulating shot. The female object of desire slithers around his erotic aura with feline grace. She contours her body into various double jointed postures. Hazed out gauzy lighting, carnal color schemes, and both parties donning skin tight clothing. Both of which can pull off the part. Her one-piece jumpsuit covers every part of her and this is more arousing than a shot of ass.   He wears snakeskin pants clinging to his lanky legs. No shirt...
