Song of the day - "Heaven Bound" - Tijuana and Blair Dollery

Enter the rush of the guitar coupled with a pop of  tambourine. Experimentation of sounds captivates.  You are going to love this in an instant.   He really turns your world around  He pulls out the last d in bliiindd. And he knows it gets heavy. A love that is not conventional. The inextricably bound lyrics and crisp, smoky guitar work on this tracks amps it to a different level.   The track starts heavy then drifts out to a quick stop.  It is an inquisitive track with sassy riffs and accompanying reverb.   And  Springlike bird sounds.  Yea as if you are taking a nature walk.  But its the smoking guitar solo that will halt you in your tracks. Lush and ripe. It is right up there with the greats. Apparently Tijuana put the musc together, then gathered Blair up to ignite the gutar parts and write the words. It  works . The video follows a banged up couple couple reaching seeking moving th...

Song of the Day - "Love and Violence" - Third Tme Luckie

Riveting percussion,  the sweet kick of the drum sets the tone for this bass wrecked,  guitar driven track . "Love and Violence" feels carefully crafted yet stealthily arranged. The track puts the punchy bass to good use to keep up with the driving drums. "Just a whisper away with another round of hollow apologies... Won't you please come back to me"  Wavy vocals under the crush of deftly wound guitar. "Heard it all before" The guitar continues to sting. Third Time Lucky is a 3 piece post pop punk band hailing from the South of England. TTL consists of Chris guitarist/vocals, Andy bassist/vocals, and DJ. Carl the drummer.  The name emanates from learning from one's mistakes.   I relate. They comfortably melt both genres with an even balance of elements of  pop and punk. They are creating a vital sound. While they "Shut out the outside".  Lyrics examine the dichotomy between amore and disdain The every...

Song of the day - Proof - City Lightz

Protest songs take a hard line. In this day and in this PC age it isn't polite to disagree. But fk politeness. Lets get to it. The gentleman who make up Citylightz are not shy. That would be their antonym. Synonym would be brash, outspoken,  deliciously fresh.  They get on well.  When they aren't threating a break up. That happened. But they mended fences and got back at it. Proof pulls out the feelings people might be thinking but can't, won't say. They used to have Super mega fringes.  Funny dudes.  Chatting on a radio interview about  back when there was Blink 182 and American pie.....  The song "Proof" goes full on  about the inequity of wage and  "the assailants" They are not afraid to go at the Brexit exit, What the hell is going on there anyway?  Back to the music.  Slithering guitar. punk hip hop singing. They just "rap on it".  They play with 2 guitars and a bass. The drummer kicks ...

Song of the Day - "Nervous" - Buenos Diaz

Close your eyes. Sit back relax. Leave it to the 8 track. Ddive into your auditory sense.  What are you hearing what era this. Nervous" blasts your senses with assault style guitar, free float lyrics, spoken word plus psychotomimetic undertones. Feels like a splash of Jack White, dash of Ron Gallo, a pinch of Jack Kerouac. # yay The artist that goes under the moniker of Buenos Diaz creates sound that isn’t typical of a young gentleman. His rousing bit of guitar slashing comes at you like a cold slap of water on your morning skin. It's time to get rolling. This song rides like an unhinged bare back pony kicking the dirt and tossing his mane. There is nothing safe about this song which makes it a true force of a track.  He rattles off his lyrics with the cadence of a Beatnik Poet holding court on the soap box of his own making. I picture him in the hot afternoon sun with sweat beading down his cheek and wild hair moving in its ...

Video of the Day - "Be A Light" - Ali Awan

A minimalist,  modern, message bearing artistic feast describes the official video of Ali Awan's  "Be a Light" video.  A compendium of  visual accouterments following the lyrics that feel like a wild ride down the rabbit hole.  Deftly directed by Kirby Sybert the first glance shows Ali smirking in a glass box as the opening music feels ominous before rippling into a tingling tambourine and insouciant "Dooot doot doot doota dottoo"  The long shot now shows Ali in a fitted suit moving closer to a shrouded being seated in front of a blank canvas. A black and white cat moves with quiet feline grace. The use of 3 images sets the stage. The artistic and creative direction handled by Ali himself reminded me of a 60s art house project with crisp use of abstract geometric art.   Ali seems a fan of tingling tambourine,  perfectly placed keys and sizzling guitar riffs. Trippy uses of different sound elements adds to this intro...

Artist of the Day - Scott Sharrard (psst he's amazing)

Watching  a mesmerizing guitar player and riveting lyricist like Scott Sharrard feels like a master glass in guitar driven blues and rock. Scott creates music that is deeply emotive and personal. His latest offering,  Saving Grace, resonates as a song to himself. The album released in 2018 consists of lucky 11 songs that clocks in at 51 mins. Titles such as "Tell the Truth", "Fall to Arise", "Everything a Good Man Needs" give you some insight into the album's heartfelt content.  The title track is an ode to the high cost of mental illness in the music busines. Scott bared his soul to admit he was deeply affected by losing many of his mentors, friends, and colleagues to the ravages of mental illness and addiction that festers over time. Parts of these songs feel like an homage to the fallen angels who have graced his presence and taken him under their wing. The title track begins with a sweepin gutitar opening shared with one of his ban...
